Conan O'Brien: All A Twitter

ConanOBrien

Out-of-work talk show host Conan O’Brien randomly picked one of 600,000 Twitter followers to follow back and that decision has led to some unexpected acts of kindness.

O’Brien picked of Michigan woman Sarah Killen, who is engaged to be married and goes by the Twitter name @LovelyButton.  In her Twitter posts she mentioned her mom was taking part in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure.  As a result more than a thousand dollars has been donated to the walkathon.  Many of the donations have been made in Conan O’Brien’s name.

Another benefactor of the Conan Twitter decision has been The Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF).  In Conan’s tweet exchange with Killen, his followers learned she was saving for a wedding but short on funds. So New York designer Kelima K, a supporter of CHF, offered a dress in exchange for a tweet mentioning the charity. Killen was happy to oblige.

According to CHF’s Denise Ishida the resulting tweet has sent the website’s traffic up 1,200 percent. The tweet couldn’t have come at a better time as they’re in the middle of a fundraiser for Haiti. Ishida says the charity is “very excited about the new awareness of their fund,”."

Just Call Snowboarder Hannah Teter "Sweet Cheeks"

Hanah Teter

One of the many new celebrities to emerge from the just completed 2010 Winter Olympics is U.S. Snowboarder Hannah Teter

The 23 year old snowboarding sensation has teamed up with the Doctors Without Borders to raise $100,000 by May by selling underwear.  You heard that right -- underwear.

The “Sweet Cheeks” project as it’s called will release a new underwear design every month to help charity.  And Teter is designing the cute little numbers herself.

Teter, who has worked with a number of charities including PETA, said the idea came from a “What if?” moment.  She said she often asks herself, "what if there could be clean water, food, shelter, hope, grace, mercy for those in need.”

You can get a better look at Hannah’s work at “Sweet Cheeks”, and even become a fan of the site on Facebook.

Jon Bon Jovi: Rockin' For National Service

Bon Jovi

Jon Bon Jovi has answered the call to duty.

Recently President Obama asked for a nation off volunteers to come forward to help with his program United We Serve to tackle community problems.

The rock star responded quickly to the President's request.  With the help of the Corporation for National and Community Service, Bon Jovi created a video to help get the word out.  In the video he calls on “the power of we” to make a difference. The video is available online and will premiere broadly March 4 at the Staples Center and be shown at each stop of the sold out Bon Jovi tour.

This marks the first time the White House and a musician have collaborated on a national service project, the players involved said.  But for the active philanthropist Bon Jovi, this is just another day.  He runs and is personally involved at all levels with his foundation The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, which works with families dealing with economic hardships.

AMY POEHLER: Hosting the 5th Annual World Wide Orphans (WWO) California Benefit Reception

Amy Poehler

Comedian and Saturday Night Live alum Amy Poehler will host the 5th Annual World Wide Orphans (WWO) California Benefit Reception later this month.

The event benefits the Worldwide Orphans Foundation, an group dedicated to helping orphaned children in some of the world’s most impoverished countries.

WWO spokesperson Shanta Bryant Gyan tells the Celebrity Good Life that Poehler got involved with the organization last year after meeting its founder Dr. Jane Aronson. Both women were named to Glamour Magazine's Woman of the Year list in 2009.

If Aronson’s name is familiar, it's because she is the personal physician to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara.

The organization has an incredible number of celebrity backers including Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman, Mary Louise Parker and Christy Turlington. Gyan says they support the group through time and generating awareness for the charity.

The benefit takes place on March 18th in Santa Monica, California.

Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert is hitching his star to a very worthy charity that's been plugging along for years and his involvement may give DonorsChoose.org a fresh boost.

The American Idol finalist and pop star kicked off his efforts by by making an appearance at one of the schools that’s benefited from the charity that supports school projects.  He also created a promotional video asking fans to “quit spending money on me and give it to the people who really need it, and are starting out.”

DonorsChoose.org. It’s a site where any teacher in the United States can post school projects they’re looking to fund.  That includes everything from a new camera for the classroom to a set of puppets.

Ellen DeGeneres and Will Ferrell Team-Up For Stephen J. Wampler Foundation

Will Ferrel

The combination of Ellen DeGeneres and Will Ferrell may be enough to help raise the attention and money needed to keep open a camp for kids with disabilities.  The pair of comedians and some of the Saturday Night Live staff have created videos to generate attention and money for a fundraiser for the Stephen J. Wampler Foundation.

The charity provides outdoor wilderness adventures to kids with physical disabilities and is badly in need of funds to keep operating.  The foundation’s goal is to offer the week-long camp at no cost each summer to families.

To help raise the money and to generate attention, the foundation’s founder Stephen Wampler will spend six days in September climbing Yosemite’s El Capital.  Stephen himself is impacted by Cerebral Palsy and will be making the climb in his wheelchair.
