BEN STILLER: In Support of Save The Children

Ben stiller

Committed to improving education for kids around the world, comedian and movie star Ben Stiller recently traveled to northeastern Uganda in support of a Save the Children special project.

Through the Rewrite the Future arm of Save the Children, which focuses on providing education for 8 million children in challenged countries, the star took his first trip to Africa.

“The goal of Rewrite the Future was really to go to the children in the most affected areas, the hardest to reach, and try to help them gain access to education,” Stiller said in a statement. “It’s about helping people to help themselves. It’s different from delivering a shipment of grain. It’s really about connecting with people.”

Interestingly, Stiller told Save the Children he was initially worried his celebrity status might detract from the good work he wanted to do there with the charitable group. Instead, as you can see in this video of him teaching and playing in Uganda, the opposite happened. He became a part of the good while there.

Stiller said: “As a person, and seeing what’s going on in the world, there’s only so much you can take before you go ‘I’ve just got to try to do something, whether it seems cynical or not.’”
